Places you see on the Gokarna and Dandeli trip
The two halves of the trip, in the order most itineraries run them.
- White-water rafting on the Kali: About nine kilometres of grade II and III rapids, run with a guide; the level depends on the dam release.
- Kayaking and the coracle ride: The calm stretch below the rapids, usually the same afternoon.
- Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary: Jeep safaris for gaur, langur, hornbill and, with luck, a black panther sighting.
- Syntheri Rocks: A 300-foot monolith of granite deep in the forest with the Kaneri river running past it.
- Sathodi Falls and the Supa backwaters: A forest fall an hour out, and the dam backwaters for a boat at dusk.
- Om Beach and Kudle Beach: Gokarna's two main beaches, Om shaped like the symbol, Kudle the wide one below the cliff path.
- The beach trek: The cliff walk linking Kudle, Om, Half Moon and Paradise, about three hours end to end.
- Mahabaleshwar Temple: The Atmalinga temple the town is built around, and the reason Gokarna exists.

Who this trip suits
Solo travellers and friends: the fixed-date departures are mixed groups with a trip captain, from ₹7,999 per person, and rooms are shared by gender. About half of every group travels alone, so joining by yourself is the normal way to do this trip, not the exception.
Couples and families: rafting on the Kali is grade II and III — wet and lively rather than frightening — and there is a calm-water coracle for anyone who would rather watch. The Gokarna half asks nothing of anyone. The beach trek is a real cliff walk and can be swapped for a boat between the beaches.

Best time
- October to February, 18 to 32°C: The best window: the Kali still has water after the rains, the forest is green, and the Gokarna sea is calm.
- March to May, 24 to 38°C: Hot and humid, the river lower and the rafting dependent on the dam release; the quietest time on both.
- June to September, 23 to 30°C: The monsoon: the forest at its best, the falls full, and rafting and the Gokarna water sports usually closed.
Getting there
Dandeli has no station of its own; Alnavar and Londa are the nearest, with Hubballi the nearest airport at 75 km. Gokarna Road on the Konkan line serves the coast, three hours away. Every trip here includes the road legs.
