What is the best time to visit these Maharashtra hill stations?

June to September (the monsoon) is the most beautiful window, when the Sahyadris turn green and the waterfalls are in full flow, though some points can be misty. October to February is cool, clear and comfortable for sightseeing. In the summer months (April-May) the waterfalls at Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani and Lonavala are usually dry.

Will the waterfalls have water?

The waterfalls, Lingmala, Bhushi Dam, and the Lonavala points, are at their best from June to October during and just after the monsoon. In the dry summer season they can be reduced to a trickle or completely dry, so plan around the monsoon if the falls are a priority.

Light woollens or a jacket for the evenings (the hill stations get cool after dark, especially in winter and the monsoon), comfortable walking shoes for the forts, points and caves, and a raincoat or umbrella if you travel in the monsoon. For Matheran, a backpack rather than a trolley bag makes the walk in much easier.

See Devil’s Kitchen and the vast Table Land plateau.
Continue the scenic drive to Lonavala and check in.
Overnight stay in Lonavala.

4Day 4 - Lonavala Sightseeing | Points & Caves.

After breakfast, explore Lonavala’s best-known spots.
Visit the Karla Caves and their great chaitya hall.
Take in Lion’s Point and Tiger’s Leap over the valley.
Visit Bhushi Dam and Rajmachi Point before returning.
Overnight stay in Lonavala.

5Day 5 - Trip ends at Pune - Lonavala Sightseeing & Return to Pune.

After breakfast and check-out, continue exploring Lonavala.
Visit the Celebrity Wax Museum and the rock-cut Bhaja Caves.
Climb the UNESCO-listed Lohagad Fort and stop by Pawna Lake.
Begin the drive back, reaching Pune by around 9 PM.
