Places you see on the Goa and Dandeli trip

The two halves of the trip, in the order most itineraries run them.

  • The Kali river at Dandeli: Boating, kayaking and zorbing on the backwaters, included on both trips; white-water rafting is booked locally in its season, usually outside the peak monsoon.
  • The Dandeli forest: The jungle of the Kali Tiger Reserve around the resort, with its birds, hornbills and night sounds.
  • Syntheri Rocks and Supa dam: The tall rock face over the Kaneri stream and the reservoir on the Kali, the usual sightseeing near Dandeli.
  • Cabo de Rama: The old fort on the cliffs of South Goa, with the sea on three sides and a small beach below.
  • Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary: The forest in the Western Ghats of South Goa, with its bubbling lake and waterfalls.
  • Butterfly Beach: The cove reached by boat from the Palolem side, with dolphins often seen on the way.
  • Cola Beach and its lagoon: The freshwater lagoon that meets the sea at Cola, one of the quietest beaches in South Goa.

Solo travellers and friends: the fixed-date departures are mixed groups with a trip captain, from ₹9,999 per person, and rooms are shared by gender. About half of every group travels alone, so joining by yourself is the normal way to do this trip, not the exception.

Couples and families: the private trip runs on your dates with your own car, a forest stay and a homestay by the sea. The water activities at Dandeli are gentle; rafting, where you book it, has age and health limits set by the operators.

Best time

  • October to March, 20 to 33°C: The best window for both halves: dry days, a calm sea in South Goa and the forest still green after the rains.
  • April and May, 24 to 35°C: Hot and humid on the coast, warm in the forest; quieter and cheaper.
  • June to September, 23 to 30°C: The monsoon: heavy rain, the forest at its greenest and the sea closed to swimming and boat trips.

Getting there

Dandeli has no airport or railway: Hubli is about 75 km and two hours away, and Goa's airports about three hours. Dandeli to South Goa is about 110 to 130 km and three to three and a half hours through the Anmod ghat and Ponda, the road both trips take.
