Places you see on the Mysore and Coorg trip
The two halves of the trip, in the order most itineraries run them.
- Mysore Palace: The Wadiyar palace of 1912; go for the 7 pm Sunday and public-holiday illumination, 97,000 bulbs for 45 minutes.
- Chamundi Hill and the Nandi: 1,000 steps or a road to the Chamundeshwari temple, with the monolithic Nandi on the way down.
- Brindavan Gardens: The terraced gardens below the KRS dam, 19 km out, with the musical fountain after dark.
- Srirangapatna: Tipu Sultan's island fort 16 km out: Daria Daulat Bagh, the Gumbaz and the Ranganathaswamy temple.
- Abbey Falls: Eight km from Madikeri, a short walk to a hanging bridge facing the fall.
- Dubare Elephant Camp: The forest camp on the Kaveri where you help bathe and feed the elephants; mornings only.
- Raja's Seat and Madikeri Fort: The sunset garden looking west over the valley, and the old fort in the middle of town.
- Namdroling Monastery, Bylakuppe: The Golden Temple of the Tibetan settlement, half an hour off the Mysuru road, with chanting at 5 pm.
- Mandalpatti and the coffee estates: A jeep-only track above Madikeri that reaches 1,600 m for sunrise over the clouds, and an estate walk before you leave.

Couples and families: this is one of the gentlest trips in the south — a palace, a garden, a temple hill and a waterfall, with nothing that asks for a climb. As a private trip you keep your own car and the fountain show sets the evening rather than a departure time.
Best time to go, and getting to Mysore and Coorg
Best time
- October to February, 14 to 29°C: The best window: mild in Mysuru, cold at night on the estates, and the waterfalls still full after the rains. Dasara falls at the start of it.
- March to May, 18 to 34°C: Hot by afternoon in Mysuru, so the palace and the market become morning outings; Coorg stays cool and is at its quietest.
- June to September, 19 to 28°C: A light monsoon in Mysuru that keeps Brindavan green, a heavy one in Coorg: the falls are at their best, prices are lowest, and the Mandalpatti track can close.
Getting there
Mysuru has its own small airport and a main railway station; Coorg has neither and is reached by road, three hours west of Mysuru or four from Mangaluru. Every trip here includes the road legs.
