Places to visit in Hampi

- Virupaksha Temple: The living temple at the end of Hampi bazaar, 7th century and still in worship, with the pinhole-camera chamber behind it.
- Vittala Temple and the stone chariot: The musical pillars and the chariot on the ₹50 note; an electric buggy runs the last kilometre.
- Matanga Hill: The sunrise climb over the whole ruin field; 30 minutes up, start in the dark.
- The Royal Enclosure: The Lotus Mahal, elephant stables, the stepped tank and the queen's bath, all on one ticket with Vittala.
- Hippie Island (Virupapur Gaddi): Across the river by coracle, the rice-field side with cafes and the sunset from Sanapur lake.
- Sanapur Lake: A short ride from Hippie Island for coracle rides and a swim in the season.
- Anegundi and Anjanadri Hill: The older village across the river and the 575 steps up to Hanuman's birthplace for sunrise.
