Hampi questions, answered

What is the best time to visit Hampi?
October to February is ideal, cool, dry days for exploring the ruins on foot. The monsoon (June-September) brings the Tungabhadra alive and turns the boulder landscape green, and is the best time for Jog Falls. Summer (March-May) is hot on the Deccan, so days start early and viewpoints are best at sunrise or sunset.
Should we hire a guide, and are entry fees included?
Hampi rewards a good guide, we especially recommend one at the Vittala Temple to bring the history to life. Guides and the monument entry tickets (Vittala/Royal Enclosure carry a small combined ticket) are payable directly and are not included in the package.
How much walking is involved in Hampi?
The ruins are spread across a large area, so there is a fair bit of walking between and around the monuments, often on uneven ground and in the sun. Your vehicle drops you as close as possible to each cluster, and you can take the optional coracle ride or an electric buggy at some sites. Comfortable shoes make a big difference.
What should we pack?
Light cottons, a hat and sunscreen for the open ruins, and comfortable walking shoes for the rocky ground. Carry water, and modest clothing for the temples. If your trip includes the coast (Gokarna, Murudeshwar), add beachwear and a change of clothes.
What kind of hotels are included?
You choose the category, Standard (3★) or Deluxe (4★), and the price adjusts accordingly. Most Hampi stays are in Hospet, a short drive from the ruins, on twin-sharing with breakfast. If a primary hotel is sold out we provide an alternate of the same or higher category at no extra cost.
