Places you see on the Hampi and Badami trip

The two halves of the trip, in the order most itineraries run them.

  • Virupaksha Temple and Hampi Bazaar: The one temple still in worship after 700 years, with the ruined bazaar street running east from it.
  • Vittala Temple and the stone chariot: The musical pillars and the chariot on the ten-rupee note; a battery bus runs the last kilometre.
  • Matanga Hill and Hemakuta Hill: Sunrise from one, sunset from the other, both a short climb over the boulders.
  • The royal enclosure: The Lotus Mahal, the elephant stables, the queen's bath and the stepped tank, all inside one walled quarter.
  • Anegundi and the coracle crossing: The older settlement across the Tungabhadra, reached by coracle, with Anjanadri hill above it.
  • Badami cave temples: Four caves cut into the red sandstone cliff in the 6th century, above the Agastya lake.
  • Bhutanatha temples and Badami fort: The temples at the water's edge and the fort on the cliff opposite the caves.
  • Pattadakal: A UNESCO site of ten temples where the northern and southern styles were worked out side by side.
  • Aihole: Over a hundred temples across the fields, including Durga and Lad Khan — the place the Chalukyas practised.

Hampi and Badami trip cost

₹8,999 to ₹18,499 per person, and what moves it is the length, the season and the room. 3 days from ₹8,999, 4 days from ₹11,499, 5 days from ₹13,999, 6 days from ₹16,999.

What the price includes

  • Travel from the pick-up city and back on a group departure, or the car and driver on a private trip.
  • Stays on twin or triple sharing.
  • The meals named on the trip page, normally breakfast and dinner on a group departure.
  • Sightseeing as listed, and a Travloger trip captain on every group departure.

What it does not include

  • Entry at the Vittala temple complex and the Badami caves, and the Archaeological Survey ticket that covers Pattadakal.
  • The coracle crossing at Anegundi and the battery bus at Vittala, both paid on the spot.
  • Lunches on travel days, anything personal, and travel insurance.

Who this trip suits

Friends and solo travellers: every trip here is private, so a group of four to eight sets its own pace and splits the cost.

Couples and families: this is a walking trip on uneven stone in strong sun, so the month matters more here than anywhere else in the south — November to February, and hats. As a private trip the days start early, break in the middle and finish at sunset, which is both the cooler and the better-looking way to do it.

Best time to go, and getting to Hampi and Badami

Best time

  • November to February, 15 to 30°C: The only comfortable window for either: cool mornings on the boulders, clear light on the carvings, and the river still full.
  • March to June, 24 to 42°C: Very hot on open stone with almost no shade; sightseeing is a dawn and dusk business and prices are lowest.
  • July to October, 22 to 33°C: Rain and humidity, greener than you expect, and the Tungabhadra at its fullest.

Getting there

Neither has an airport. Hosapete, 13 km from Hampi, is the railhead for the ruins; Badami has a small station of its own on the Hubballi line, and the road between the two takes about three hours. Hubballi airport is 160 km from Hampi and 110 from Badami.

Hampi and Badami: what travellers ask

October to February is the season, with cool mornings for the ruins and lake afternoons at Sanapur. March to May is very hot, so sightseeing moves to early mornings and evenings. The monsoon, June to September, is green and quiet.

From people just like you

During this memorable trip, it wasn't merely a voyage but an enriching adventure shared with dear friends and family. The experience proved to be exceptionally comfortable, justifying every penny spent. Opting for this option was a decision I would have regretted not making, given the unparalleled comfort and joy it brought. A pivotal factor in this delightful journey was our travel guide, Deepika. Her remarkable care and attention to detail ensured that every moment was free of discomfort, making this expedition truly special.

Our Keral trip was good, it was a well organised and traveloger team took care of everything so well. However, our trip was during christmas and obviously all the places were crowed and roads were blocked. Also, it was informed to us that the places will be crowed. So, we had no expectations and had good vacation.
