Places you see on the Wayanad and Coorg trip

The two halves of the trip, in the order most itineraries run them.

  • Edakkal Caves: Neolithic carvings 4,000 to 8,000 years old, up a 1.5 km climb from Ambalavayal; closed on Mondays.
  • Banasura Sagar Dam: The largest earth dam in India, with speedboats on the reservoir and islands you can walk out to in summer.
  • Soochipara (Sentinel Rock) Falls: A three-tier fall with a pool at the bottom, a 15-minute walk through forest.
  • Kuruva Island and Chembra Peak: A 950-acre river island crossed on bamboo rafts, and the heart-shaped lake on the way up the 2,100 m peak; both need the season and a permit.
  • Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary: Dawn and afternoon jeep safaris for elephant, gaur and deer on the Bandipur side.
  • Abbey Falls and Raja's Seat: The hanging-bridge waterfall eight km from Madikeri, and the sunset garden looking west over the Coorg valley.
  • Dubare Elephant Camp: The forest camp on the Kaveri where you help bathe and feed the elephants; mornings only.
  • Namdroling Monastery, Bylakuppe: The Golden Temple of the Tibetan settlement, with chanting at 5 pm.
  • Mandalpatti and the coffee estates: A jeep-only track above Madikeri that reaches 1,600 m for sunrise over the clouds, and an estate walk on either side of the trip.

Wayanad and Coorg trip cost

₹8,999 to ₹21,999 per person, and what moves it is the length, the season and the room. 4 days from ₹8,999, 5 days from ₹13,999, 6 days from ₹16,499, 8 days from ₹21,999.

What the price includes

  • Travel from the pick-up city and back on a group departure, or the car and driver on a private trip.
  • Stays on twin or triple sharing.
  • The meals named on the trip page, normally breakfast and dinner on a group departure.
  • Sightseeing as listed, and a Travloger trip captain on every group departure.

What it does not include

  • Entry tickets and camera fees at Edakkal, the falls, Dubare and the monastery.
  • The Chembra permit and the Mandalpatti jeep, both paid locally and shared between the group.
  • Safari tickets at Muthanga, lunches on travel days, anything personal, and travel insurance.

Who this trip suits

Solo travellers and friends: the fixed-date departures are mixed groups with a trip captain, from ₹8,999 per person, and rooms are shared by gender. About half of every group travels alone, so joining by yourself is the normal way to do this trip, not the exception.

Couples and families: the same route runs as a private trip with your own car and the early starts dropped. Edakkal is a real climb and Chembra a proper trek, so both are worth planning around if you are travelling with very young children or elderly parents; Banasura Sagar, Dubare and the Golden Temple ask nothing of you.

Best time to go, and getting to Wayanad and Coorg

Best time

  • October to February, 14 to 28°C: The best window for both: clear and green after the rains, the season for Chembra and the safaris, and cold nights on the Coorg estates.
  • March to May, 18 to 33°C: Warm in the valleys, cool on the estates, and the quietest time on both sides.
  • June to September, 16 to 26°C: One of the wettest monsoons in Kerala: the falls are at full flow, prices are lowest, and Chembra, Kuruva and the Mandalpatti track usually close.

Getting there

Neither has an airport or a station of its own. Wayanad is reached through Kozhikode (about 100 km, two hours up the Thamarassery ghat) or Mysuru; Coorg through Mysuru or Mangaluru; and the drive between them is two and a half hours through the Kutta forest road. Every trip here includes the road legs.

Wayanad and Coorg: what travellers ask

October to May is the season; October to February is cool and clear and the best time for Chembra and the viewpoints. The monsoon from June to September turns Wayanad deep green and misty with the falls at full flow, though the treks close.

From people just like you

During this memorable trip, it wasn't merely a voyage but an enriching adventure shared with dear friends and family. The experience proved to be exceptionally comfortable, justifying every penny spent. Opting for this option was a decision I would have regretted not making, given the unparalleled comfort and joy it brought. A pivotal factor in this delightful journey was our travel guide, Deepika. Her remarkable care and attention to detail ensured that every moment was free of discomfort, making this expedition truly special.

Our Keral trip was good, it was a well organised and traveloger team took care of everything so well. However, our trip was during christmas and obviously all the places were crowed and roads were blocked. Also, it was informed to us that the places will be crowed. So, we had no expectations and had good vacation.
