  • Raja's Seat: The sunset garden looking west over the Coorg valley.

Best time to go, and getting to Coorg and Chikmagalur from Bangalore

Best time

  • October to February, 13 to 28°C: The best window for both halves: clear mornings on Mullayanagiri, full waterfalls after the rains, cold nights on the estates.
  • March to May, 18 to 33°C: Warm in the valleys and pleasant on the estates, with the fewest people on the jeep tracks.
  • June to September, 16 to 26°C: The monsoon: mist, heavy rain, waterfalls at their fullest, and the lowest prices. Mandalpatti and the Kemmangundi tracks can close.

Getting there

From Bengaluru, Madikeri is 260 km and five to six hours through Mysuru, and Chikmagalur is 240 km through Hassan, so the loop between the two is easy in a weekend. The group departures leave on Friday night; a private trip can start at any hour.
