Ooty and Coonoor trip cost
₹6,999 to ₹9,999 per person, and what moves it is the length, the season and the room. 3 days from ₹6,999, 4 days from ₹9,999.
What the price includes
- Travel from the pick-up city and back on a group departure, or the car and driver on a private trip.
- Stays on twin or triple sharing.
- The meals named on the trip page, normally breakfast and dinner on a group departure.
- Sightseeing as listed, and a Travloger trip captain on every group departure.
What it does not include
- Entry tickets at the botanical garden, the rose garden, Doddabetta, Sim's Park and the viewpoints.
- The Nilgiri toy train ticket, which is booked separately and sells out in season.
- Boating at Ooty lake and Pykara, lunches on travel days, anything personal, and travel insurance.
Who this trip suits
Solo travellers and friends: the fixed-date departures are mixed groups with a trip captain, from ₹6,999 per person, and rooms are shared by gender. About half of every group travels alone, so joining by yourself is the normal way to do this trip, not the exception.
Couples and families: this is an easy trip — gardens, a boat ride, a train and two viewpoints, with no walking beyond a few hundred metres. As a private trip the early starts go, and Coonoor makes the quieter base of the two if you want tea estates rather than a town.
Best time to go, and getting to Ooty and Coonoor
Best time
- October to February, 5 to 20°C: Cold, clear mornings and the best light for Doddabetta and the toy train; frost is possible in December and January.
- March to June, 15 to 25°C: The summer season, when the plains escape the heat; the flower show fills May and rates peak.
- July to September, 12 to 20°C: Heavy rain and mist on the viewpoints, the fewest crowds and the lowest prices of the year.
Getting there
Ooty has no airport or railway station of its own. Coimbatore, 85 km below, is the nearest of both, and the Nilgiri Mountain Railway climbs from Mettupalayam through Coonoor to Ooty. From Karnataka the road approach is through Mysuru and Bandipur.
Or take them one at a time
The same hills also run as longer trips: Ooty on its own, or Ooty paired with Kodaikanal in the Palani hills.
