4 Days Kumarakom Lakeside Honeymoon Retreat

★★★★★ 4.8 · 500+ Google reviewsPrivate trip, only your group

Day-wise plan

Every day runs on a private cab - the order and pace are yours to change.

1Day 1 - Trip begins at Cochin - Arrival & Unwind
  • Your driver meets you at Cochin and takes the road south to Kumarakom, on the shore of Vembanad, the longest lake in India.
  • Check in to your villa and take the rest of the afternoon slowly — the lake is the point of this trip, and it is best watched from a veranda.
  • Head out on the sunset cruise, then a cultural evening back at the resort.
  • All meals are at the resort, so dinner and the night are taken care of.
2Day 2 - Birds & Backwaters
  • After breakfast, visit the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary on the old rubber plantation beside the lake — best walked early, when the birds are loudest.
  • Take the village walk through the coconut groves and canals that surround the resort.
  • The rest of the day is deliberately empty: lakeside leisure, which on a honeymoon is the itinerary rather than a gap in it.
  • Dinner and overnight at the resort.
3Day 3 - Kottayam & Calm
  • Drive across to Kottayam for the morning — a town of churches, bookshops and the rubber trade rather than a sightseeing circuit.
  • Return for your Ayurvedic massage, the one included in the package.
  • The evening is the candlelit dinner, set apart from the restaurant.
  • Overnight at the resort.
4Day 4 - Trip ends at Cochin - Departure
  • Take a last breakfast by the lake with no schedule attached to it.
  • Check out when you are ready — a late departure from the villa is worth asking about.
  • Your driver returns you to Cochin for the flight or train home.

Kerala questions, answered

Not travelling from Cochin? Can I still join?
Yes. The plan starts at Cochin and you can reach it from any Indian city. Kochi, Trivandrum and Calicut all have airports, and the trains along the coast are frequent. Your travel up to the start point is not part of the price, and we will help you pick the right arrival time.
Is this a group departure or a private trip?
This is a private trip. Your own car and driver, your own dates and your own pace, with only your group on board. The houseboat is booked for your party alone unless you ask us for a shared one.
How does the houseboat night work?
Boats board around midday and moor for the night by early evening, since cruising after dark is not permitted on the backwaters. Lunch, dinner and next-day breakfast are cooked on board, and the boat is yours alone with its own crew.
When is the best time to visit Kerala?
September to March is the comfortable window, dry and green after the rains. April and May are hot and humid on the coast though fine in the hills. June to August is the south west monsoon, which is beautiful and cheap but wet, and the season for Ayurveda.
Can the itinerary be changed?
Yes. Nights can be shifted between the hills and the coast, the houseboat upgraded to a premium boat, and beach days added at the end. Send an enquiry with your dates and group size and we will build the exact plan and price for you.
