1Day 1 - Trip begins at Srinagar - Arrival in Jammu | Transfer to Katra.
  • Arrive at Jammu Airport / Railway Station, transfer to your hotel in Katra.
  • Visit the Raghunath Temple and Baba Dhansar if time permits.
  • Rest for the climb the next day.
  • Overnight stay in Katra.
2Day 2 - Vaishno Devi Darshan.
  • Begin the 13 km trek to the Mata Vaishno Devi cave shrine at 5,200 ft.
  • Walk, or hire ponies and palki from Banganga (payable directly).
  • Attend the puja and darshan at the shrine.
  • Descend to Katra for the night.
  • Overnight stay in Katra.
3Day 3 - Katra to Pahalgam | The Valley of Shepherds.
  • After breakfast and check-out, drive to Pahalgam through the Valley.
  • Check in and relax by the Lidder river.
  • Optional rafting on the Lidder, payable directly.
  • Overnight stay in Pahalgam.
4Day 4 - Pahalgam to Srinagar | Shikara Ride.
  • After breakfast, drive to Srinagar and check in.
  • Enjoy a Shikara ride on Dal Lake past floating gardens and markets.
  • Learn about the centuries-old Kashmiri houseboat culture.
  • Overnight stay in Srinagar.
5Day 5 - Excursion to Sonmarg | Thajiwas Glacier.
  • After breakfast, drive to Sonmarg along the Sindh river.
  • Pony ride to the Thajiwas Glacier viewpoint amid meadows.
  • Optional rafting on the Sindh river, payable directly.
  • Return to Srinagar for an overnight stay.
6Day 6 - Excursion to Gulmarg | Gondola & Meadows.
  • After breakfast, drive to the Gulmarg union cab stand.
  • Ride the Gondola towards Apharwat Peak and visit the Drung Waterfall.
  • Gondola tickets, pony rides and the union cab are paid directly.
  • Return to Srinagar for an overnight stay.
7Day 7 - Srinagar Sightseeing | Houseboat Stay.
  • After breakfast, tour the Shankaracharya Temple and the Mughal Gardens.
  • Visit Pari Mahal above the Zabarwan range.
  • Check in to a houseboat on Dal Lake for the night.
  • Overnight stay on the houseboat.
8Day 8 - Trip ends at Srinagar - Departure from Srinagar.
  • After breakfast, check out from the houseboat.
  • Transfer to Srinagar Airport for your journey home.

Kashmir questions, answered

How long is the Vaishno Devi trek and are ponies available?
The climb from Katra to the cave shrine is about 13 km each way. You can walk, or hire a pony, palki or electric-vehicle segment from Banganga (paid directly). Battery-car and helicopter options exist for part of the route, subject to availability and separate booking.
What is the best time to do this Kashmir trip?
The trip runs all year. March-May brings tulips and blossom, June-August gives the greenest meadows and the most comfortable weather, September-October is the golden chinar season, and December-February turns Gulmarg into a snow destination. Heavy snowfall can occasionally affect the Gulmarg and Sonmarg roads in peak winter.
Are the Gondola tickets and pony rides included?
No. The Gulmarg Gondola, pony and sledge rides, and the Thajiwas Glacier pony ride are paid directly on the spot. Gondola tickets are issued by the state cable-car corporation and are subject to availability on the day, so book them as soon as you reach Gulmarg.
Why are local union cabs needed at Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg?
Local transport unions do not allow outside vehicles beyond the main cab stand at these points. Your private vehicle drops you at the stand and a local union cab takes you on the sightseeing circuit. These union charges are fixed and paid directly, which is why they sit under exclusions.
Is the houseboat stay comfortable for families and senior citizens?
Yes. The houseboats are moored on the Dal Lake shoreline, reached by a short shikara transfer, and have en-suite rooms, hot water, heating and room service. If anyone has mobility concerns, tell us in advance and we will place you on a boat with the shortest walk from the ghat, or move that night to a lakeside hotel.
What should we pack?
Even in summer the mornings and evenings are cool, so carry a light jacket and a warm layer for Gulmarg and Sonmarg. From November to March you need proper winter wear, gloves, cap and waterproof shoes, snow boots and jackets can also be hired at Gulmarg. Sunscreen and sunglasses matter year-round at this altitude.
Can this itinerary be customised?
