How much does the 9 day Ladakh bike expedition cost?
From ₹21,000 per adult with your own bike and fuel. Solo riders pay ₹32,000 on a 411 or ₹38,000 on a 450; dual riders ₹25,000 and ₹31,000; a seat in the SUV is ₹23,000.
Why choose the 9 day Ladakh bike expedition over the 8 day one?
The extra day spreads the same route over more time, which mostly buys you acclimatisation. At these altitudes that is the difference between enjoying Umling La and enduring it.
When is the best time to ride?
June to September for the high passes. Late September and October are quieter and starkly beautiful, but colder and weather-dependent.
Do I need previous riding experience?
You need to be comfortable on a Himalayan-class bike over rough surfaces. These are high-altitude routes with loose gravel, water crossings and long saddle days, this is not the trip to learn on.
What if I do not want to ride?
Take a seat in the SUV or backup vehicle. It is a listed pricing option, and you follow the same itinerary and stay in the same places as the riders.
Are permits included?
Yes. Inner Line Permits for the restricted areas are arranged for you. Parking, monastery and monument entry fees during sightseeing are not included.
What about altitude sickness?
The itinerary is built around acclimatisation, and an oxygen cylinder and a fully stocked first aid kit travel with the group. Carry your own medication, including Diamox, and tell the road captain early if you feel unwell.
