Day-wise plan

Every day runs on a private cab - the order and pace are yours to change.

1Day 1 - Trip begins at Dehradun - Arrive Dehradun and drive up to Mussoorie
  • You are met at Dehradun airport or railway station and driven up to Mussoorie in your private cab.
  • The climb is short and pretty, with pine slopes and easy hairpin bends most of the way.
  • Check in and keep the rest of the day open.
  • If you feel like stretching your legs, Christ Church and the Tibetan Market are both close by.
  • Overnight in Mussoorie.
2Day 2 - A full day seeing Mussoorie
  • After breakfast your cab takes you out for the day around the hill station.
  • Start at Kempty Falls, the best known waterfall in the area.
  • Go up to Gun Hill by ropeway or on foot for a wide look at the Himalayan skyline.
  • Stop at Lal Tibba, the highest point in town, then the Company Garden and Camel's Back Road.
  • Finish at Cloud's End and a slow walk down Mall Road before heading back to the hotel.
3Day 3 - Down to Haridwar for the evening Ganga aarti
  • Check out after breakfast and drive down to Haridwar.
  • Settle into your hotel and rest for a bit before stepping out.
  • Visit the Ganga Temple, a long standing place of worship on the riverfront.
  • In the evening go to Har Ki Pauri for the Ganga aarti, where lamps are floated on the river while the priests chant.
  • Overnight in Haridwar.
4Day 4 - Haridwar temples, then on to Jim Corbett
  • Check out and spend the morning at the temples the town is known for.
  • You cover Chandi Devi, Daksheshwar Mahadev and Vaishno Devi.
  • Mansa Devi sits on a hilltop and is reached either by cable car or on foot, whichever you prefer.
  • After lunch continue by road to Jim Corbett.
  • Check in to your resort and stay the night.
5Day 5 - Jeep safari in Corbett, then a slow afternoon
  • Early start for a jungle safari in Corbett National Park, the oldest tiger reserve in the country.
  • Look out for leopard, deer, elephant, black bear and the many birds along the river beds.
  • Tiger sightings do happen but are never guaranteed, so treat one as a bonus.
  • The safari runs in a shared park jeep because the reserve allots seats that way.
  • Back at the resort the afternoon is yours, with rock climbing or river rafting available nearby at extra cost.
6Day 6 - Drive to Nainital, Naini Lake and Naina Devi
  • Check out after breakfast and drive up to Nainital.
  • Check in, then head out to Naini Lake with the seven hills rising around it.
  • Boating on the lake is easy to arrange and is paid separately.
  • Visit Naina Devi Temple on the lake shore, a much loved shrine in the town.
  • Overnight in Nainital.
7Day 7 - The lakes around Nainital
  • Head out by cab to the quieter lakes in the valley below.
  • Bhimtal has a small island at its centre and an easy boat ride.
  • Naukuchiatal is the nine cornered lake and a favourite with birdwatchers.
  • Sattal is a cluster of linked lakes ringed by forest, good for a long walk.
  • Return to your hotel in Nainital for the night.
8Day 8 - Trip ends at Dehradun - Drive back to Dehradun and depart
  • Check out after breakfast.
  • Your cab takes you back down to Dehradun.
  • Drop at the airport or railway station, where the trip ends.

Mussoorie questions, answered

I am not from Dehradun - can I still take this trip?
Yes. The trip starts at Dehradun, well connected by train from Delhi and by air through Dehradun. Reach the start point and everything after that, from pickup to final drop, is on us.
Is this a group departure or a private trip?
This is a fully private trip: your own cab, your own dates and your own pace. The route here is the recommended plan, and we adjust it to your liking when you enquire.
What is the best season for this trip?
March to June for pleasant hill weather, and September to November for the clearest mountain air. Winter is crisp and quiet, while the July to September monsoon brings mist and the odd landslide on the ghat roads.
How does the Jim Corbett safari work?
Zone permits are government-allotted and sell out early, so we book your jeep as soon as dates confirm. The jeep itself is shared with other guests inside the park, which is the park rule. Core zones close roughly mid June to mid November in the monsoon.
What should I know about the Ganga aarti?
The evening aarti at Har Ki Pauri starts around sunset and the ghat fills early, so your driver drops you in good time. Modest wear is expected, footwear stays off near the steps, and leather items are best left in the cab.
Can the itinerary be customised?
Yes. Days can be added or removed, stays upgraded, and places swapped. Send an enquiry with your dates and group size and we will build the exact plan and price for you.
