  • Stay: a tea-estate resort or a treehouse-style stay around Vythiri and Kalpetta.

  • Weather: Wayanad sits at 700 to 2,100 m: 15 to 29°C for most of the year, cool nights from December to February, and one of the wettest monsoons in Kerala from June to August, when Chembra and Kuruva often close..
  • Trip type: 1 fixed-date group departure and private trips on your own dates.

Wayanad packages by starting city

Fixed-date group departures leave from Hyderabad and Bangalore: the travel, the stays, the meals listed and a trip captain in one price.

From Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Kochi and Calicut every trip is planned privately around your dates, and each city page says how to reach Wayanad from there and what it costs.

Places to visit in Wayanad

Every trip on this page covers the places below; a private trip can drop one and add another.

  • Edakkal Caves: Neolithic carvings 4,000 to 8,000 years old, reached by a 1.5 km climb from Ambalavayal; closed on Mondays.
  • Chembra Peak: The heart-shaped lake on the way up the 2,100 m peak; a forest permit and an early start are needed, and the trail closes in heavy rain.
  • Banasura Sagar Dam: The largest earth dam in India, with speedboats on the reservoir and islands you can walk out to in summer.
  • Soochipara (Sentinel Rock) Falls: A three-tier fall with a pool at the bottom, a 15-minute walk through forest.
  • Kuruva Island: A 950-acre river island of evergreen forest crossed on bamboo rafts; closed during the monsoon.
  • Thirunelli Temple and Pakshipathalam: An ancient temple under Brahmagiri with a forest trek beyond it, in the north of the district.
  • Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthanga: Dawn and afternoon jeep safaris for elephant, gaur and deer on the Bandipur side.

A 3 day Wayanad trip, day by day

A private trip runs the same plan at your own pace; a group departure follows it to the minute.

  • Day 1: reach by afternoon, Pookode lake and a spice plantation walk, then the estate for the evening.
  • Day 2: Edakkal caves early, Soochipara falls, and Banasura Sagar for sunset from the dam.
  • Day 3: a dawn safari at Muthanga or the Chembra climb with a permit, then the drive out through Bandipur.

Wayanad trip cost and what the price covers

Wayanad packages start at ₹8,999 per person: ₹8,999 for 4 days. That covers the stays, the local travel, the sightseeing and activities each trip page lists; the journey from your city is quoted with the trip so you can pick the train, bus or flight.

What moves the price is the room category, the season and the group size. Weekends, long weekends and the December fortnight cost more than a mid-week date, and a group of four to six brings the per-person price down because the car and the rooms are shared. Entry tickets and anything not named on the trip page stay out of the fare, so the number you see is the number you pay.

Wayanad for friends, couples and families

Friends and solo travellers: 1 fixed-date group trip from ₹8,999, travel and trip captain included, rooms shared by gender: 4 Days Wayanad Coorg Group Trip from Hyderabad (4D/3N, from ₹8,999).

Families and couples take the private trips: the same places at your own pace, with the room category and the car chosen for your group.

Best time to visit Wayanad and how to reach

Best time

October to May is the season; October to February is cool and clear and the best time for Chembra and the viewpoints. The monsoon from June to September turns Wayanad deep green and misty with the falls at full flow, though the treks close.

  • October to February, 15 to 28°C: The best months: clear, green, and the season for Chembra and the safaris.
  • March to May, 18 to 33°C: Warm in the valleys, cool on the estates, and the quietest time.
  • June to September, 18 to 26°C: One of the wettest monsoons in Kerala; Chembra and Kuruva island usually close.

What to pack

Light cotton with a jacket for the evenings, leech socks or closed shoes for the monsoon, a rain shell from June to August, and proper shoes for Chembra and Edakkal, which are both climbs rather than walks.

Getting there

Wayanad is about 850 km from Hyderabad, an overnight road journey of 14 to 15 hours, so the fixed-date group trips leave on Friday evening and are back by Monday morning. The nearest stations are Kozhikode and Mysuru; there is no railway into Wayanad.

Wayanad is about 260 km from Bengaluru and the drive takes roughly five and a half hours through Mysuru and the Western Ghats, six to seven with stops. The group departures travel overnight on Friday. One thing to plan around: the Bandipur forest road is closed to traffic from 9 pm to 6 am, and the group trips are timed for it.

Chennai to Wayanad is about 560 km, 10 to 11 hours by road. The train to Kozhikode or Mysuru and two to three hours onward by road is the comfortable way; a flight to Kozhikode (Calicut) shortens it to a two-hour drive.

Wayanad compared with Coorg and Munnar

Wayanad or Coorg? Wayanad is wilder: caves, a peak climb, bamboo rafting and safaris, at Kerala prices. Coorg is more about estates and waterfalls with a wider choice of homestays. From Bengaluru both are a night drive; from Kochi, Wayanad is the easy one. They are two and a half hours apart through the Kutta forest road, so a four-day trip does both.

Wayanad or Munnar? Both are Kerala hill country, and the difference is what you do there. Munnar is tea: slopes running to the horizon, Eravikulam and Top Station, at 1,600 m and cooler. Wayanad is forest and rock: the Edakkal carvings, the Chembra climb, Banasura Sagar and a dawn safari at Muthanga, at 700 to 2,100 m and warmer in the valleys. Munnar is the quieter, more scenic drive; Wayanad has more to actually do, and from Bengaluru or Hyderabad it is much the shorter journey.

From people just like you

During this memorable trip, it wasn't merely a voyage but an enriching adventure shared with dear friends and family. The experience proved to be exceptionally comfortable, justifying every penny spent. Opting for this option was a decision I would have regretted not making, given the unparalleled comfort and joy it brought. A pivotal factor in this delightful journey was our travel guide, Deepika. Her remarkable care and attention to detail ensured that every moment was free of discomfort, making this expedition truly special.

Our Keral trip was good, it was a well organised and traveloger team took care of everything so well. However, our trip was during christmas and obviously all the places were crowed and roads were blocked. Also, it was informed to us that the places will be crowed. So, we had no expectations and had good vacation.
