A five-day Kerala trip from Hyderabad or Bengaluru costs ₹28,000 to ₹45,000 per person in 2026 once the flight, the hotels, the houseboat, the car and the meals are all counted, and about ₹20,000 if you take the train and a three-star circuit. This guide adds it up line by line at September 2026 prices, from both cities, so the number you budget with is the number you spend.

Getting there: ₹3,000 by train, ₹8,000 to ₹14,000 by air
From Hyderabad the flight to Kochi is 90 minutes on IndiGo or Air India, ₹4,000 to ₹7,000 one way in most months and ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 across the Christmas fortnight and Sankranti. The Sabari Express leaves Secunderabad in the evening and reaches Ernakulam the next evening, about 20 hours, ₹1,200 in 3AC. For Wayanad, fly to Kozhikode instead.
From Bengaluru the flight is 70 minutes, ₹3,000 to ₹6,000 one way, and the overnight Ernakulam Express does it in about 12 hours for ₹900 in 3AC. Wayanad is a six-hour drive through Mysuru, so a Wayanad trip from Bengaluru costs nothing to reach beyond fuel or a ₹6,000 cab.
Book flights four weeks out for most of the year and six to eight weeks out for December. Flying home from Thiruvananthapuram when the trip ends at Kovalam costs about the same as a Kochi return and saves the four-hour drive back. Hotels and the package: what ₹14,500 buys
Kerala hotels are priced by season and by the view. In Munnar a three-star with a tea-slope view is ₹3,000 to ₹4,500 a night in season, a four-star estate resort ₹6,000 to ₹10,000, the five-star plantation bungalows ₹15,000 and up. Thekkady is a little cheaper; Alleppey's cost is the houseboat, not a hotel; Varkala's cliff resorts run ₹4,000 to ₹12,000.
A land package bundles the hotels with a private car and driver for the whole trip, the houseboat with its meals, breakfasts, and the sightseeing plan. Priced separately: four nights at ₹3,500 is ₹14,000, a car and driver for five days ₹9,000 to ₹11,000, a standard houseboat ₹8,000 a night split two ways, and you are past the package price before a single entry ticket.
The houseboat: ₹7,000 to ₹25,000 a night for the boat
A private one-bedroom houseboat on the Alleppey backwaters costs ₹7,000 to ₹10,000 a night for a standard boat, ₹12,000 to ₹18,000 for a premium air-conditioned one and ₹20,000 and up for the luxury boats, for the whole boat including lunch, dinner and breakfast cooked on board. Two-bedroom boats for a family or two couples are ₹12,000 to ₹25,000. Tickets and the small costs, September 2026
- Eravikulam National Park, Munnar: about ₹200 for Indians, closed February to March for the calving season.
- Tea Museum, Munnar: about ₹150. Mattupetty boating: ₹200 to ₹400.
- Periyar lake boat, Thekkady: about ₹300 plus the park entry; the Kathakali and Kalaripayattu shows ₹300 to ₹500 each.
- Spice plantation walk: ₹200 to ₹300. Elephant camp ride: ₹500 to ₹1,000.
- Athirappilly falls: about ₹50. Varkala and Kovalam beaches: free.
- Ayurveda: a 60-minute abhyangam massage ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 at a resort, ₹800 to ₹1,200 at a town centre.
Meals: a Kerala sadya or a fish curry meal at a local restaurant is ₹150 to ₹300 a head; a resort dinner ₹700 to ₹1,200. Plan ₹600 to ₹900 a day for the meals the package does not include.

How to bring the number down
- Go in September to November, or the monsoon. Resorts are 30 to 50 percent below the December rate and the hills are at their greenest.
- Take the overnight train one way. From Bengaluru it is a night's sleep; from Hyderabad it is long but saves ₹5,000 a head.
- Share the houseboat. A two-bedroom boat for four costs less per head than two one-bedroom boats.
- Eat in town. The fish curry meal at ₹200 is the best food in the state.
- Travel as four. The car and driver cost the same for four as for two, and the package per head drops close to the saving band.
