The best time to visit Vietnam from India is March and April, the one stretch when the north, the centre and the south are all in good shape for a trip that covers the whole country. Vietnam is long, though, and each region keeps its own seasons: Hanoi and Halong Bay are clearest in October and November, Da Nang and Hoi An are dry from February to August, and Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc are driest from December to April. This guide goes season by season, with temperatures, the cheapest and dearest months to fly from India, and the weeks to avoid.

Region by region
- North: Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Halong Bay. Best from September to November and again from April into June. December to March is cool and misty, with nights that can drop to about 10°C. Summer storms, mostly from June to August, can cancel Halong Bay cruises.
- Centre: Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue. Dry and hot from about February to August, with Hue drying out a little later, in March. The rains start in September and last until the coast dries out in February, and Hoi An's old town floods most years in October and November.
- South: Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta. Driest from December to April. The wet season lasts until about late November, mostly as heavy afternoon downpours that pass in an hour or two.
- Phu Quoc. Vietnam's tourism board rates it clear and sunny from October to June; July to September brings storms that can make boat trips unsafe.
September to November: the north at its best
October and November are the clearest months in Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Halong Bay, at around 25°C, and September is good too, though it can still bring storms. This is the season for the 5 Days Hanoi Halong Bay Ninh Binh Escape.
The rest of the country is wetter. The central coast is in its rainy season, and October and November are the peak flood weeks in Hoi An, so do not build a trip around it then. The south stays wet until late November. September is the dearest month to fly from Bengaluru to Ho Chi Minh City, and fares from India climb again around Diwali.
December to February: the south dry, the north cool
Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and Phu Quoc are dry and sunny at about 30°C. Hanoi and Halong Bay are grey, cool and often misty, with days mostly 15 to 20°C and nights near 10°C; the cruises still sail, so pack a jacket. The central coast dries out by February.
Two things push prices up. Christmas to New Year is a fare peak from India, and Tet, the Lunar New Year, falls around 6 February in 2027: many shops close for days, hotels fill up and prices jump. On the other hand, February is the cheapest month to fly from Hyderabad to Ho Chi Minh City and from Bengaluru to Hanoi.
March to May: the whole-country window
The centre is dry, the south stays dry until about May, and the north gets clearer, warmer days from April. That makes March and April the months for a route that runs the length of the country, like the 7 Days Vietnam Halong Saigon Mekong Bliss or the 9 Days Vietnam Grand Tour Hanoi Saigon. March is also the cheapest month to fly from Chennai and Bengaluru to Ho Chi Minh City and from Hyderabad to Hanoi. May is hot everywhere, and the Indian summer holidays start filling flights.
June to August: beaches in the centre, storms in the north
Da Nang and Hoi An are dry and hot, up to about 35°C, which makes this the season for the 5 Days Da Nang Hoi An Golden Bridge Bliss. Ba Na Hills is cooler than the coast but crowded, so go early.
The north is in its rainy, stormy season, humid at 30°C and more, and Halong Bay cruises can be cancelled at short notice. The south gets heavy afternoon downpours that usually clear in an hour or two. June is the dearest month to fly from Hyderabad and Chennai to Ho Chi Minh City.

Tet, storms and the weeks to avoid
Tet, the Lunar New Year, is the date on Vietnam's calendar that changes a trip most. It falls around 6 February in 2027. Many shops close for several days, hotels fill up and prices jump, so either book early and expect closed shutters, or travel a week either side. The other weeks to plan around:
- Hoi An and Hue in October and November: the peak flood weeks on the central coast.
- Halong Bay cruises from June to August: storms can cancel sailings at short notice.
- Phu Quoc from July to September: the island's stormy months.
- The coast from about May to November: storms can hit, so book flexible dates and take travel insurance.
- Indian holiday peaks: Diwali, Christmas to New Year and the May and June school holidays, when fares from India rise sharply.
