Places to visit in Spiti Valley
These are the places Spiti Valley trips are built from. Each trip page lists exactly which of them it covers, and a private trip can swap one for another.
- Key Monastery: The largest monastery in Spiti, stacked on a hill above the river 14 km from Kaza, with a morning prayer hall visitors can sit in.
- Kibber and the Chicham bridge: A high village above Key, and the bridge over the deep gorge between Kibber and Chicham.
- Langza: The village of marine fossils under the giant Buddha statue, looking across at Chau Chau Kang Nilda.
- Hikkim and Komic: Hikkim's post office, one of the highest in the world, where travellers post a card home, and Komic's monastery a short drive on.
- Dhankar Monastery: The old fort monastery on a crumbling cliff above the meeting of the Spiti and Pin rivers.
- Tabo Monastery: Founded in 996, its mud-walled halls hold some of the oldest murals in the Himalaya.
- Pin Valley: The national park valley south of Kaza, with Mudh village at the road's end.
- Chandratal Lake: The crescent lake below the Kunzum pass, reachable on the Manali side road in summer only.
- Nako, Kalpa and Chitkul: The Kinnaur villages on the way in: Nako's lake, Kalpa's view of Kinner Kailash, and Chitkul at the end of the Sangla valley.
