Kerala Honeymoon Guide: the Five-Day Plan, Where to Stay and the Cost for Two

Travloger Team11 Sept 20264 min read

Kerala is the honeymoon Indian couples pick when they want three different worlds in five days without a flight between them: a tea-estate morning in Munnar, a night alone on a houseboat on the backwaters, and a cliff-top sunset at Varkala. This guide is the honeymoon version of a Kerala trip: the five and six day shapes our couples take, where to stay and why, the evenings worth building the trip around, the best months, and what it costs for two in 2026.

Five days: the honeymoon shape

The 5 Days Best Kerala Honeymoon Tour at ₹20,900 per person is the plan most couples take. It is the classic circuit with the rooms, the boat and the evenings changed:

  • Day 1: Kochi to Munnar; a tea-estate resort with a private balcony over the slopes, sunset from it.
  • Day 2: Eravikulam early, then Mattupetty and Top Station in the afternoon; a candle-light dinner at the resort.
  • Day 3: the cardamom-hill drive to Thekkady, a spice-plantation walk, the Periyar lake boat at 3:30 pm, a plantation stay.
  • Day 4: down to Alleppey and a private premium houseboat: air-conditioned bedroom, a deck for two, the crew cooking, moored in a quiet stretch for the night.
  • Day 5: disembark at 9, Fort Kochi for lunch, the flight home.

Six days adds Varkala: two nights in a cliff resort with the beach below, and the flight home from Thiruvananthapuram. Seven days does the same at a slower pace, or adds Kumarakom's lake resorts in place of the houseboat night. The luxury version of the five days is the Kerala Luxury Honeymoon Package at ₹47,900, with five-star plantation stays and a luxury boat.

Where to stay: the four choices

PlaceWhyCost per night, in season
Munnar, a tea-estate resortMist on the slopes at dawn, a balcony or a private plunge pool, the coolest air in the state; the first two nights₹6,000 to ₹15,000 for a four-star estate room; ₹15,000 to ₹35,000 for the plantation bungalows and pool villas
Thekkady, a spice-plantation stayQuiet, forest edge, the Periyar boat; one night₹4,500 to ₹12,000
Alleppey, a premium houseboatThe night the trip is remembered for; the two of you, the crew and the water₹12,000 to ₹18,000 for the boat; ₹20,000 and up for the luxury boats
Varkala or Kovalam, a cliff or beach resortThe last two nights on the sea; Varkala for the cliff and the cafes, Kovalam for the calmer lighthouse beach₹5,000 to ₹14,000; the Kovalam five-stars ₹20,000 and up
Kumarakom, a lake resortA quieter, resort-based alternative to the houseboat night, with pools on the lake₹9,000 to ₹30,000

Split the stay across at least three of these. Every plan on the Kerala honeymoon packages page is written that way, and the planner switches the resorts for the ones you have in mind.

The moments worth planning around

  1. Dawn on the tea slopes. Ask for a room facing the estate and set an alarm for 6; the mist lifts by 7:30 and the slopes turn from grey to green.
  2. The Periyar boat at 3:30 pm. The late slot is when the elephants come to the banks. Book it in the morning; it sells out.
  3. The houseboat deck at sunset. The boat moors by 5:30; the hour after is the trip. Ask the crew for the karimeen fry at lunch and the mooring away from the other boats.
  4. A candle-light dinner. Every resort on these plans sets one up on request, on the balcony or in the garden; it is arranged, not charged extra on most plans.
  5. The Varkala cliff at sunset. The cafes along the cliff path, the beach below, the temple at Janardanaswamy in the morning.
  6. A couple's Ayurveda session. A 60-minute abhyangam at the resort, ₹1,500 to ₹3,000 each; the Ayurveda resorts do a two-day couple's programme.

What it costs for two

LineFive days, two people
Return flights from Hyderabad, Bengaluru or Chennai₹16,000 to ₹24,000
5 Days Best Kerala Honeymoon Tour, two people₹41,800
Meals not included, tickets₹9,000
Couple's Ayurveda, a dinner out, shopping₹8,000
Total for twoabout ₹75,000 to ₹85,000

Prices are September 2026, outside the December fortnight, which adds ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 to the flights and resorts. The luxury version comes to about ₹1.4 lakh for two. The general cost breakdown is in Kerala trip cost from Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

When to go

Late January to February and November are the honeymoon months: cool Munnar mornings, the beaches open, the resorts below their December peak. December 20 to January 5 is the busiest and dearest fortnight and needs the houseboat booked by October. June to August is the monsoon: half the price, the hills at their greenest, the houseboats running, but the sea closed to swimming, so not the month for a Varkala ending. Month by month is in the best time to visit Kerala.

Practical things couples ask

  • Privacy on the houseboat. A one-bedroom boat is yours alone with a crew of two or three who stay at the stern; the plans here never share a boat.
  • Dress. Swimwear at the pool and the beach; shoulders and knees covered at temples, and men in a mundu or trousers at the big ones.
  • Honeymoon touches. Room decoration, a cake and a late check-out are arranged on request; tell the planner the wedding date.
  • Driving. The Munnar and Thekkady roads are winding hill roads; the private car and driver in every plan means nobody has to drive them.
  • Photography. The tea slopes at dawn, the houseboat deck, the Varkala cliff and Fort Kochi's fishing nets are the frames; a two-hour photographer in Munnar is about ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 and is easily booked.

The honeymoon plans, from ₹20,900 per person, are on the Kerala honeymoon packages page. Tell the planner your dates, your city and the resort style you like, and the quote comes back with the flights added.
