1Day 1 - Trip begins at Paro Airport - Arrive in Siliguri and drive to the border town
- Pick up at Bagdogra airport or New Jalpaiguri station and drive to Phuentsholing
- Check in and keep the day easy
- Optional stops include the Amo Chhu crocodile breeding centre and a walk along the Torsa riverside
2Day 2 - Permits, then on to Thimphu
- Finish permit formalities at the immigration office
- Scenic drive up to the capital and check in
- Free time for Dechen Phodrang Monastery, the Zorig Chusum arts institute, the Royal Botanical Garden, Ludrong Memorial Garden or Clock Tower Square
3Day 3 - Thimphu sightseeing
- Begin at the National Memorial Chorten
- Meet the takin at the Motithang preserve, set among pine woods
- See the Buddha Dordenma statue, Tashichho Dzong, Changangkha Lhakhang, Simply Bhutan and the Royal Textile Academy
- Browse the handicrafts emporium, and add the postal museum with its personalised stamps if you like
4Day 4 - Over Dochula Pass to Punakha
- Break the drive at Dochula Pass with its 108 memorial chortens
- Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple
- See Punakha Dzong at the meeting of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers
- Walk the long Punakha suspension bridge
- Optional river rafting before checking in
5Day 5 - Day trip to Gangtey
- Drive out to the glacial Phobjikha valley, wintering ground of black-necked cranes
- Visit the Gangtey monastery above the valley floor
- Continue to Wangdue Phodrang Dzong at the river confluence
- Return to Punakha for the night
6Day 6 - Move to Paro and sightseeing
- Drive through village country to the Paro valley and check in
- See Drukgyel Dzong, a window into Bhutan's military past
- Visit the 7th century Kyichu Lhakhang
- On a clear day the peak of Jhomolhari is visible from the valley
7Day 7 - Hike to the Tiger's Nest
- Drive to the trailhead and climb through pine forest and prayer flags
- Reach Taktsang Monastery on its cliff and visit the chambers and meditation caves tied to Guru Rinpoche
- Descend and unwind, with an optional traditional hot stone bath
8Day 8 - Trip ends at Paro Airport - Departure
- Check out and stop at the Bhutan immigration office for exit formalities
- Transfer to Paro airport for your journey home
