Bhutan land packages planned around your dates and group; flights from Mumbai are quoted separately. Bhutan trip cost from Mumbai

Bhutan packages from Mumbai start at ₹28,500 per person: ₹28,500 for 5 days and ₹45,499 for 7 days. That is a land package: the hotels, airport transfers, the sightseeing and activities listed on each trip page, and a planner on WhatsApp through the trip. Flights from Mumbai are not included; they are quoted separately so you pick the airline and dates. Visa and entry fees are paid separately unless the trip page lists them. Our planner handles the entry permit for you.

Bhutan is a foreign trip Indians can take without a visa, even on a Voter ID card: the currency is pegged to the rupee, the nightly SDF for Indians is ₹1,200 (as of September 2026) rather than the US$100 most other nationalities pay, and the monasteries, forests and quiet mountain roads are about an hour's flight from Kolkata or a little over two hours from Delhi. The price moves with the hotel category, the month and the group size, so share those three and you get an exact quote rather than a starting figure.

Bhutan for honeymoons, families and friends

Couples: 2 honeymoon plans, with the honeymoon touches each trip page lists, from ₹40,990: 6 Days Bhutan Escape from Siliguri Honeymoon (6D/5N, from ₹40,990); 6 Days Bhutan Sightseeing Honeymoon (6D/5N, from ₹41,290).

Families: 2 family plans, from ₹39,290: 6 Days Bhutan Sightseeing Getaway (6D/5N, from ₹39,290); 7 Days Bhutan Punakha Dochula Escape (7D/6N, from ₹45,499).

Friends and solo travellers take the standard plans and split rooms; every trip here is planned around your dates and group, and where a tour or day trip runs on a shared basis, the trip page says so.

Bhutan, Sikkim and Darjeeling packages

Phuentsholing sits on the West Bengal border, so a road trip can leave Bhutan and continue to Gangtok, roughly 220 km and a long day's drive, for Tsomgo Lake and Nathu La, then on to Darjeeling, about 100 km from Gangtok.

1 trip on this page, from ₹61,000 per person: 11 Days Bhutan Sikkim Darjeeling Grand Escape (11D/10N, from ₹61,000).

Punakha and Gangtey packages

Punakha is about 75 km from Thimphu, usually two and a half to three hours over the 3,100-metre Dochula pass and its 108 chortens; the dzong stands where the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers meet. Beyond it, the Phobjikha (Gangtey) valley is where black-necked cranes spend the winter, from the last week of October to mid-February.

2 trips on this page, from ₹45,499 per person: 7 Days Bhutan Punakha Dochula Escape (7D/6N, from ₹45,499); 8 Days Bhutan Gangtey Valley Escape (8D/7N, from ₹48,299).

Bhutan road trips from Siliguri

Fly into Bagdogra, drive roughly 160 km (usually four to five hours) to Jaigaon and cross into Bhutan at Phuentsholing, where the permit is checked; Thimphu is about another 145 km, typically five to six hours on the mountain road with stops. It adds a travel day each way, but it avoids the Paro flight, and Bagdogra has non-stops from Hyderabad (two a day) and Bengaluru (one a day), quoted separately.

2 trips on this page, from ₹38,990 per person: 6 Days Bhutan Escape from Siliguri (6D/5N, from ₹38,990); 6 Days Bhutan Escape from Siliguri Honeymoon (6D/5N, from ₹40,990).

Places to visit in Bhutan

11 places most Bhutan trips are built around, in the order a first visit usually takes them. Five days by air covers Thimphu, Paro and the Tiger's Nest hike; six days adds Punakha over the Dochula pass, or pays for the drive in and out when you enter by road from Siliguri; seven or eight days fits Punakha with the Gangtey valley or Chele La on the road route; eleven days crosses back into India for Gangtok and Darjeeling.

  • Tiger's Nest (Paro Taktsang): The monastery on a cliff 900 metres above the Paro valley, a hike of about three hours up and two down; the last morning of most trips.
  • Paro: Rinpung Dzong and the National Museum: The fortress-monastery above the river and the round watchtower above it that holds the museum.
  • Buddha Dordenma: The 51-metre seated Buddha on the hill above Thimphu, with the valley spread out below.
  • Tashichho Dzong: Thimphu's fortress, the seat of government and the monastic body, open to visitors in the evening after office hours.
  • Memorial Chorten: The white stupa in Thimphu where townspeople circle with prayer wheels through the day.
  • Dochula Pass: The 3,100-metre pass between Thimphu and Punakha with its 108 chortens and, on a clear morning, the Himalayan range.
  • Punakha Dzong: The most beautiful of the dzongs, at the meeting of two rivers, reached over a covered wooden bridge.
  • Chimi Lhakhang: The temple of the Divine Madman across the paddies from Punakha, a short walk through the village of Sopsokha.
  • Phobjikha (Gangtey) Valley: The glacial valley where black-necked cranes winter from late October to mid-February, with the Gangtey monastery above it.
  • Chele La Pass: The highest road pass in Bhutan at about 3,800 metres, between Paro and the Haa valley, with prayer flags and yaks.
  • Kyichu Lhakhang: One of the oldest temples in the country, in the Paro valley, from the seventh century.

Bhutan from Mumbai: visa, flights and the best time

Visa: Indian citizens do not need a visa for Bhutan: you get a free entry permit, applied for online before travel or issued on arrival at Paro airport or a land border such as Phuentsholing, where the wait can be long. Carry an Indian passport valid for at least six months from the day you leave Bhutan, or your original Voter ID card; children under 18 can use a passport or birth certificate and must travel with a legal guardian. Aadhaar, PAN and driving licences are not accepted as entry documents. As of September 2026 the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for Indians is ₹1,200 per adult per night, ₹600 for children aged 6 to 11 and nothing under 6, and a guide certified by Bhutan's Department of Tourism must accompany you. The SDF is paid on top of the package price unless the trip page lists it as included, and our planner handles the entry permit for you.

Flights: No airline flies non-stop from Mumbai to Bhutan: Paro is served only by Drukair and Bhutan Airlines, from Delhi and Kolkata every day, so from Mumbai you connect in Delhi (about 2 hours 20 minutes on to Paro) or Kolkata (about an hour on), 6 to 8 hours in all. The other way in is a non-stop to Bagdogra, about three hours, then four to five hours by road to the border at Phuentsholing (timetables as of September 2026).

Best time: March to May and late September to November are the best months: rhododendrons and the Paro Tshechu in spring, and the clearest Himalayan views from October, which is also the busiest and dearest time. From late June to late September the monsoon hides the peaks in cloud and landslides can slow the road up from Phuentsholing. December to February is cold, with nights around or below freezing in Thimphu and Paro, but the days are mostly dry, clear and quiet.

Money: Bhutanese ngultrum (Nu), pegged one to one with the Indian rupee. Rupee cash is widely accepted, so most Indian travellers carry rupees, but the Embassy of India in Thimphu says notes above ₹100 (₹200 and ₹500) may be carried only up to ₹25,000 in total, with anything more in ₹100 notes or smaller. Visa and Mastercard work at ATMs and are widely used in the towns, much less so in the countryside. UPI payments through the BHIM app have been possible in Bhutan since July 2021, but not every shop takes them, so do not rely on UPI alone.
