Which Indian city do I fly from?

Paro is served from Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra and Guwahati, and the approach flight along the Himalaya is famously one of the finest anywhere. Airfare is not part of this price, so you can book the routing that suits you and we will match the plan to your arrival.

Is this a group departure or a private trip?

This is a private trip. Your own vehicle, driver and licensed guide, your own dates and only your own group. Bhutan requires every visitor to travel with a registered guide, and yours is yours alone rather than shared with strangers.

Is the Sustainable Development Fee included?

Yes. Bhutan charges Indian nationals a Sustainable Development Fee of 1,200 rupees per person per night, and on this plan it is already inside the price along with your permits, so there is nothing further to pay on that count.

What paperwork do Indian passport holders need?

No visa, but you do need an entry permit, which our planner handles for you. Carry a passport valid for at least six months or a voter ID card, and passport photographs. Permits for Punakha and anywhere beyond Thimphu are processed separately, which is part of why a registered guide is required.

What is the best time to make this trip?

March to May brings the rhododendrons and the spring festivals, and late September to November gives the clearest mountain air and the autumn tsechus. June to August is the monsoon, when the valleys are green and quiet but the views are unreliable.

Can the itinerary be changed?

Continue to Simtokha Dzong, the oldest dzong in the country, dating to 1627

3Day 3 · Transfer to Punakha with sightseeing en route

Stop at Dochula Pass for the higher Himalayan skyline if the weather is clear
Visit Chimi Lhakhang, the fertility temple built by Lama Drukpa Kunley
Explore Punakha Dzong at the meeting of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers
Check in at Punakha for dinner and the night

4Day 4 · Transfer to Paro and Paro sightseeing

Drive from Punakha to Paro and check in
Visit the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong in the upper valley, with views to Mount Jomolhari on a clear day
Stop at Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country, dating to 659 AD
Dinner and overnight in Paro

5Day 5 · Excursion and hike to Taktsang Monastery

Drive to the base of the Tiger's Nest trail and begin the roughly 6.5 kilometre hike
Climb through pine forest and prayer flags, with a halt at the midway cafeteria
Finish on about 700 steps to the monastery built around Guru Rinpoche's meditation cave, on a cliff dropping some 900 metres
Visit Ta Dzong, the old watchtower that now holds the National Museum, and Rinpung Dzong below it
Walk to the dzong across the traditional covered cantilever bridge

6Day 6 · Trip ends at Paro Airport - Departure from Paro
