Flying to Bhutan from Delhi

Delhi is one of only two Indian cities with a non-stop to Bhutan: Drukair and Bhutan Airlines fly Delhi to Paro every day, about 2 hours 20 minutes, on one of the most dramatic approaches in the world between the valley walls (timetables as of September 2026). Delhi also has non-stops to Bagdogra for the road route in through Phuentsholing.

Flights from Delhi leave from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). They are not part of the package price: the planner quotes them separately on request, so you choose the airline, the timing and the fare, and the trip starts from the airport transfer when you land.

How many days for Bhutan from Delhi

With a non-stop of about 2 hours 20 minutes, a Delhi traveller loses only part of the first and the last day, so the 5- and 6-day plans are enough for a first visit; the longer ones add a second base or slower days.

6 plans fit that, from ₹28,500 per person: 5 Days Bhutan Paro Thimphu Getaway (5D/4N, from ₹28,500); 6 Days Bhutan Paro Thimphu Escape (6D/5N, from ₹30,499); 6 Days Bhutan Escape from Siliguri (6D/5N, from ₹38,990); 6 Days Bhutan Sightseeing Getaway (6D/5N, from ₹39,290).

When to go to Bhutan from Delhi

The holidays Delhi travels on, and what Bhutan is like in those weeks:

  • Holi (March): Bhutan in March is one of the best months: spring, rhododendrons and the Paro Tshechu.
  • Summer holidays (mid-May to June): Bhutan in June is the start of the monsoon, which arrives in late June and hides the peaks in cloud.
  • Diwali (October or November): Bhutan in November is still one of the best months, with clear views.
  • The winter break (late December to early January): Bhutan in December and January is cold, with nights around freezing, but dry, clear and quiet days.

March to May and late September to November are the best months: rhododendrons and the Paro Tshechu in spring, and the clearest Himalayan views from October, which is also the busiest and dearest time. From late June to late September the monsoon hides the peaks in cloud and landslides can slow the road up from Phuentsholing. December to February is cold, with nights around or below freezing in Thimphu and Paro, but the days are mostly dry, clear and quiet.

Bhutan is a foreign trip Indians can take without a visa, even on a Voter ID card: the currency is pegged to the rupee, the nightly SDF for Indians is ₹1,200 (as of September 2026) rather than the US$100 most other nationalities pay, and the monasteries, forests and quiet mountain roads are about an hour's flight from Kolkata or a little over two hours from Delhi. The price moves with the hotel category, the month and the group size, so share those three and you get an exact quote rather than a starting figure.

Bhutan visa and money for travellers from Delhi

Visa: Indian citizens do not need a visa for Bhutan: you get a free entry permit, applied for online before travel or issued on arrival at Paro airport or a land border such as Phuentsholing, where the wait can be long. Carry an Indian passport valid for at least six months from the day you leave Bhutan, or your original Voter ID card; children under 18 can use a passport or birth certificate and must travel with a legal guardian. Aadhaar, PAN and driving licences are not accepted as entry documents. As of September 2026 the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) for Indians is ₹1,200 per adult per night, ₹600 for children aged 6 to 11 and nothing under 6, and a guide certified by Bhutan's Department of Tourism must accompany you. The SDF is paid on top of the package price unless the trip page lists it as included, and our planner handles the entry permit for you.

Money: Bhutanese ngultrum (Nu), pegged one to one with the Indian rupee. Rupee cash is widely accepted, so most Indian travellers carry rupees, but the Embassy of India in Thimphu says notes above ₹100 (₹200 and ₹500) may be carried only up to ₹25,000 in total, with anything more in ₹100 notes or smaller. Visa and Mastercard work at ATMs and are widely used in the towns, much less so in the countryside. UPI payments through the BHIM app have been possible in Bhutan since July 2021, but not every shop takes them, so do not rely on UPI alone.
