Places to visit in Uttarakhand
These are the places Uttarakhand trips are built from. Each trip page lists exactly which of them it covers, and a private trip can swap one for another.
- Har Ki Pauri, Haridwar: The ghat where the Ganga leaves the hills, with the evening aarti at sunset; the Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples sit on the hills above, reached by cable car.
- Rishikesh: Ram Jhula, Triveni Ghat and the Beatles Ashram: The suspension bridge over the Ganga, the evening aarti on the ghats, and the old ashram where the Beatles stayed in 1968.
- Shivpuri: The stretch of river above Rishikesh for white-water rafting, riverside camps, bungee and zip lines, all paid on the spot unless a trip page includes them.
- Mussoorie: Mall Road, the Camel's Back Road walk, Gun Hill by cable car and Kempty Falls below the town, with Dhanaulti's pine forests a day trip away.
- Dehradun: Robber's Cave, the sulphur springs at Sahastradhara and the Forest Research Institute's old buildings, on the way up to Mussoorie.
- Nainital and its lakes: Boating on Naini Lake, the Naina Devi temple and the Mall Road, with Bhimtal, Sattal and Naukuchiatal a short drive away.
- Jim Corbett National Park: India's oldest national park, founded in 1936, with jeep safaris from Ramnagar into its zones for tigers, elephants, deer and birds; sightings are never guaranteed.
- Auli and Gorson Bugyal: The meadows and ski slopes above Joshimath, facing Nanda Devi, snow-covered in winter; Gorson Bugyal is a walk up through the forest from the top of the slopes.
- Chopta, Tungnath and Chandrashila: A short trek to Tungnath, often called the highest Shiva temple in the world, and the Chandrashila summit above it at sunrise, with the Deoriatal lake walk nearby.
- Kedarnath: The Shiva temple at about 3,580 m, reached by a long trek from Gaurikund along the Mandakini, or by helicopter booked separately.
- Badrinath and Mana: The Vishnu temple on the Alaknanda and Mana village a few kilometres on, near the Tibet border, with Vyas Gufa and Bhim Pul.
- Yamunotri and Gangotri: The first two dhams of the circuit: Yamunotri's temple and hot springs after a trek of about 6 km, and Gangotri's temple on the Bhagirathi.
