Uttarakhand splits neatly in two, and most trips lean one way or the other. The Garhwal side is the river and pilgrim country: Haridwar and Rishikesh on the Ganga, the evening aarti at Har Ki Pauri and Triveni Ghat, white water below Shivpuri, and the road on up through Devprayag towards the high shrines. Rishikesh has become two towns in one — ashrams and yoga on one bank, rafting and cafés on the other. The Kumaon side is lakes and ridges: Nainital around its lake, Mussoorie looking out over the Doon valley, and quieter hill stations behind both. Higher again, Auli has meadows in summer and skiing in winter, reached from Joshimath. Down in the terai, Jim Corbett is grassland and sal forest with tigers in it. Our trips run three days to twelve, from a Rishikesh weekend to a full Garhwal and Kumaon circuit. Every one is private and shaped around your group rather than a fixed departure.
