Flying to Sri Lanka from Delhi

Non-stop Delhi to Colombo flights take about 3 hours 35 minutes, with three or four departures a day across Air India, IndiGo and SriLankan Airlines (schedules as of September 2026).

Flights from Delhi leave from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL). They are not part of the package price: the planner quotes them separately on request, so you choose the airline, the timing and the fare, and the trip starts from the airport transfer when you land.

How many days for Sri Lanka from Delhi

With a non-stop of about 3 hours 35 minutes, a Delhi traveller loses only part of the first and the last day, so the 5- and 6-day plans are enough for a first visit; the longer ones add a second base or slower days.

7 plans fit that, from ₹35,000 per person: 5 Days Sri Lanka Bentota Beach Retreat (5D/4N, from ₹35,000); 5 Days Sri Lanka Kandy Bentota Bliss (5D/4N, from ₹35,000); 6 Days Sri Lanka Sigiriya Dambulla Adventure (6D/5N, from ₹37,999); 6 Days Sri Lanka Kandy Coast Getaway (6D/5N, from ₹38,000).

When to go to Sri Lanka from Delhi

The holidays Delhi travels on, and what Sri Lanka is like in those weeks:

  • Holi (March): Sri Lanka in March is one of the driest months: sunny on the west and south coasts and clear at Sigiriya and Kandy.
  • Summer holidays (mid-May to June): Sri Lanka in June is the south-west monsoon at its heaviest on the west and south coasts, when the east coast has its best months.
  • Diwali (October or November): Sri Lanka in November is one of the wettest months in Colombo, Kandy and much of the island.
  • The winter break (late December to early January): Sri Lanka in December and January is the start of the classic-circuit season, still showery in Kandy and the hills; late December is busy and dear; then one of the driest months: sunny on the west and south coasts and clear at Sigiriya and Kandy, and busy.

December to April is the season for the classic circuit, and January to March are the driest months: sunny weather on the west and south coasts at Bentota, Galle and Mirissa, and clear days at Sigiriya and in Kandy. December can still be showery in Kandy and the hills, and April turns hot with afternoon thunderstorms. Late December, January and mid-April are the busiest and dearest weeks. From May to September the south-west monsoon brings rain (heaviest in May and June) and rough seas to that coast, which is when the east coast has its best months and west-coast hotels are cheapest. October and November are the wettest months in Colombo, Kandy and much of the island.

Sri Lanka trip cost from Delhi

Sri Lanka packages from Delhi start at ₹35,000 per person: ₹35,000 for 5 days, ₹37,999 for 6 days and ₹44,500 for 7 days. That is a land package: the hotels, airport transfers, the sightseeing and activities listed on each trip page, and a planner on WhatsApp through the trip. Flights from Delhi are not included; they are quoted separately so you pick the airline and dates. Visa and entry fees are paid separately unless the trip page lists them. We apply for your Sri Lanka ETA for you.

Sri Lanka is one of the closest foreign holidays from South India: under an hour and a half of flying from Chennai or Bengaluru, a free ETA for Indian passport holders (as of September 2026), food that feels familiar, and tea hills, a rock fortress, elephants, Ramayana sites and beaches within one week's drive. The price moves with the hotel category, the month and the group size, so share those three and you get an exact quote rather than a starting figure.

Sri Lanka visa and money for travellers from Delhi

Visa: Indian passport holders need a Sri Lanka ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization). Sri Lanka's Department of Immigration and Emigration says every foreign visitor must obtain one before arrival. We apply for your ETA for you on the official eta.gov.lk site before you fly. As of September 2026 it is issued free of charge to Indian nationals, under a scheme in force since 25 May 2026, according to news reports. It allows 30 days in the country with a double entry and can be extended inside Sri Lanka for a fee. Your passport needs at least six months of validity from the day you land, and immigration can ask to see a confirmed return ticket and proof of funds. The free scheme is a government decision that has changed before, so we confirm the fee on eta.gov.lk when we apply; if one applies by then, it is paid separately.

Money: Sri Lankan rupee (LKR), about 3.4 rupees to one Indian rupee as of September 2026. Visa and Mastercard work in hotels, larger restaurants and shops; carry cash for tuk-tuks, small cafes, temple offerings and roadside stalls. Not every ATM accepts foreign cards and card skimming is common, so use ATMs inside banks or hotels. UPI works at some Sri Lankan merchants through NPCI International, but acceptance is patchy, so treat it as a back-up rather than the plan.
