October to March is the pleasant season, with clear mornings and cool nights. April and May are warm but still green. June to September is the monsoon, when the waterfalls are at their best and the estates sit in mist, though the Mandalpatti road and the treks can close.

Coorg or Ooty?
Coorg or Ooty?
Ooty is colder, busier and built for sightseeing: gardens, a toy train and viewpoints, reached in six to seven hours from Bengaluru. Coorg is greener and quieter, about coffee estates, waterfalls and homestays, and five hours away. Coorg usually works out slightly cheaper for the same nights because the stays are homestays rather than hotels; Ooty is the better first trip with children or elderly parents because everything is close together.
